Take a look at Siri feature on new iPhone 4S ... What do you think about it?
Apple earnings miss reflects consumer 'smarts,' said analyst
Apple's fourth quarter disappointed Wall Street, but J.P. Morgan analyst Mark Moskowitz believes iPhone sales were hurt simply by customers waiting to pick up the newest version.
For the quarter, Apple took home sales of $28.27 billion and earnings of $6.62 billion , or $7.02 per share. Those figures were up from sales of $20.34 billion and earnings per share of $4.64 a year ago. But the earnings came in 27 cents lower than the average estimate by analysts surveyed by Thompson Financial.
Apple Again Tops ACSI Customer Satisfaction Survey
Apple has topped the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) in the personal computer category for an eighth consecutive year, achieving a score of 87 points. This is Apple’s highest score ever on the index and nine points ahead of second place HP. The ACSI includes tablets in the PC category, and the organization says in its press release, “Apple’s winning combination of innovation and product diversification — including spinning off technologies into entirely new directions — has kept the company consistently at the leading edge.”
Steven Paul Jobs, 56, died Wednesday at his home with his family. The co-founder and, until last August, CEO of Apple Inc was the most celebrated person in technology and business on the planet. No one will take issue with the official Apple statement that “The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.”
It had taken a while for the world to realize what an amazing treasure Steve Jobs was. But Jobs knew it all along. That was part of what was so unusual about him. From at least the time he was a teenager, Jobs had a freakish chutzpah. At age 13, he called up the head of HP and cajoled him into giving Jobs free computer chips. It was part of a lifelong pattern of setting and fulfilling astronomical standards. Throughout his career, he was fearless in his demands. He kicked aside the hoops that everyone else had to negotiate and straightforwardly and brazenly pursued what he wanted. When he got what he wanted — something that occurred with astonishing frequency — he accepted it as his birthright.
But Steve Jobs was that talented, visionary and determined. He combined an innate understanding of technology with an almost supernatural sense of what customers would respond to. His conviction that design should be central to his products not only produced successes in the marketplace but elevated design in general, not just in consumer electronics but everything that aspires to the high end.
If Jobs were not so talented, if he were not so visionary, if he were not so canny in determining where others had failed in producing great products and what was necessary to succeed, his pushiness and imperiousness would have made him a figure of mockery.
For most of his 56 years, Steve Jobs banged on doors, but for the past dozen or so very few were closed to him. He was the most adored and admired business executive on the planet, maybe in history. Presidents and rock stars came to see him. His fans waited up all night to gain entry into his famous”“Stevenote” speeches at Macworld, almost levitating with anticipation of what Jobs might say. Even his peccadillos and dark side became heralded.
His accomplishments were unmatched. People who can claim credit for game-changing products — iconic inventions that become embedded in the culture and answers to Jeopardy questions decades later — are few and far between. But Jobs has had not one, not two, but six of these breakthroughs, any one of which would have made for a magnificent career. In order: the Apple II, the Macintosh, the movie studio Pixar, the iPod, the iPhone and the iPad. (This doesn’t even include the consistent, brilliant improvements to the Macintosh operating system, or the Apple retail store juggernaut.)
Apple iPhone 4S launch
Apple Inc on Tuesday unveiled a new version of its smartphone, the iPhone 4S. iPhone 4S will run on the same chip as iPad, that is A5. iPhone 4S is said to have a battery life of 8 hours 3G talk time and can run 10 hours of video.
Earlier, Scott Forstall, Senior Vice President of iOS Software at Apple Inc, took stage at Apple's iPhone event on Tuesday to talk about iOS 5. iOS 5 which has 200 new features will be available as a free update on October 12. According to Reuters, Scott Forstall talked about the integration of Twitter into many of Apple's built-in apps. He also introduced 'iMessage', a service for iOS users.
With many publications building subscriptions for the iPad, 'Newstand', a feature that organises subscriptions and downloads new issues was introduced by Forstall.
Apple's new CEO, Tim Cook said that the company sold more Macs on opening day in Hong Kong than at any other store opening in the world. He added that to date 6 million copies of Lion have been downloaded.
Tim Cook walked onstage to kick off theevent at which the fifth version of the company's iPhone is expected to be unveiled.
Some shareholders and analysts expect a cameo appearance by Jobs, now chairman, though a no-show would not be a major disappointment.
Apple launches are some of the hottest events on the tech calendar. Tuesday's "Let's talk iPhone" show marked Cook's unofficial debut since taking over from Jobs in August.
The new iPhone faces competition from phones based on the Android operating system, such as Samsung Electronics' Galaxy line.
Later tonight is when we'll know exactly what Apple has been keeping from us. It's anybody's guess if the iPhone 5 (if at all that is its given name) will live up to the hype or whether we'll see one new iPhone or two!
However, you can be sure that you'll hear about it even if you're living under a rock. The buzz that a new Apple launch generates in the online world is palpable - more so when it's the launch of what many are already calling the 'best phone in the world'.
It's being widely speculated that the new iPhone will have a larger screen, more powerful hardware and seamless integration with the cloud - besides one or more surprise features. Apple might also launch a cheaper (yet more powerful) version of the existing iPhone 4, which will take up the fight with the numerous 'cheap' Android smartphones.
Last week, Apple Inc. e-mailed invitations to a media event at its headquarters in Cupertino. The invite says 'let's talk iPhone,' implying the secretive company intends to show off the latest version of the device.
The new iPhone is expected to have a number of changes, the biggest of which will likely be under the hood: the inclusion of Apple's latest iOS mobile software, iOS 5, which has been slated for release this fall.
iOS 5 will include things such as wireless device setup and content syncing, and beefed-up camera, email and Web-browsing apps. A new service called iMessage will allow iOS 5 users to send text messages to each other over Wi-Fi or wireless carriers' data networks, while a folder called Newsstand will corral newspaper and magazine app subscriptions in one place to make it easier to find them. When it comes out, the software will also be available for Apple's iPad, iPhone 4 and 3GS and the two most recent generations of the iPod Touch.

the Day has is coming.. :D
Apple sent out numerous invitations to members of major media outlets for a media event that is scheduled for October 4th. Tim Cook, the Chief Executive of Apple, is set to lead the meeting. The meeting is currently set for 10AM Pacific Time. The invitations were sent out with the headline “Let’s talk iPhone” so we know there will be some major next-generation iPhone discussion happening.
The invitation itself was composed of icons from the operating system that Apple uses on its’ products. The invitation included a calendar with the date, a clock displaying the time, the maps icon which set the location at Apple’s Cupertino headquarters, and the Phone icon which displayed one missed call.
This comes a week after it was first leaked that Apple was blacking out vacation days for its’ employees during the second week of October. It has been rumored that
the new iPhone will come out a week after next week’s meeting.
the new iPhone will come out a week after next week’s meeting.
There are many rumors as to what the iPhone will look like and what functions it will have. There has been some speculation that the iPhone will be completely redesigned but other rumors have the new iPhone being almost identical to the iPhone 4.
However, with the numerous leaks over the past few months, it is more likely that the new iPhone will appear and much different than the older iPhones. With Apple’s track record, you never know what they are going to do though. All we can do is wait and see what Apple has in store for us again.
expectation from apple iPhone5
After Apple announced a media event with the slogan “Let’s talk iPhone”, it is certain that the iPhone 5 launch is coming. There is a huge buzz surrounding the new iPhone and what will be included. Here are some things you should expect with the iPhone 5:
A New Design
At first, many people thought that Apple was going to keep the design of the iPhone 5 identical or extremely close to the iPhone 4. However, numerous pictures of new iPhone cases have been released, which in no way could hold the previous versions of the iPhone. Therefore, it is safe to say the iPhone 5 has been redesigned.
Faster Performance
To keep up with competitors, Apple most likely will be upgrading the RAM on the iPhone 5. We rely on smartphones extensively so it only makes sense that Apple would have upgraded the speed and performance of the new iPhone.
Better Camera
While Apple did improve the camera with the iPhone 4, it is expected that the camera on the iPhone 5 will be upgraded further. Many experts believe the screen will be larger, the camera will be 8 megapixels instead of 5, and the iPhone 5 will allow for full 1080p recording.
4G?
It is still unknown whether or not Apple will include 4G capabilities on the iPhone 5. However, if 4G is included, expect the iPhone to be larger. 4G requires a large amount of battery power and Apple has always been careful about battery life. While many people do want 4G on the iPhone, we will have to wait until the meeting to see whether or not Apple has included it.
Addition of New Carriers
Apple has slowly been extending its’ reach to new carriers. There is some speculation that Apple will include new carriers for the iPhone 5. Some rumors have indicated T-Mobile will be included, especially with AT&T trying to buy them. Sprint will likely be offering the iPhone 5 with an unlimited data plan, which AT&T / Verizon no longer offer.
iOS 5
Apple will definitely be launching the iPhone 5 with it’s new operating system giving us over 200 new features. You can see exactly what’s included on the Official Apple iOS5 page.
Voice Recognition
Apple acquired a voiced-based personal assistant service Siri last year and has not used it much at all, at least that we know of. Apple may be integrating this service on the new iPhone to allow for voice recognition.
If anything is certain, the new iPhone 5 should be much improved and better then previous models. Apple always seems to one-up themselves with each version and hopefully the iPhone 5 is no different.
iOS 5 mobile operating system
Apple has released the newest beta of their upcoming iOS 5 mobile operating system, and one of the quickly discovered new features is a gesture interface that provides the same functionality as the iPhone and iPad’s hardware buttons.
Listed under the Accessibility settings in the device’s setup area, the new “Assistive Touch” option places a floating button on the screen which allows users to use touch gestures to complete a variety of commands, including returning to the home screen, multitasking, changing the device’s volume and more. While it appears that Assistive Touch is targeted at those who have difficulty with hardware buttons, the feature appearing in this way has signaled to many that Apple is considering dropping hardware buttons in future devices.
There are some gaps in the Assistive Touch software, as would be expected from a beta release. It’s possible to create and save custom gestures for the interface, but as of yet there appears to be no way to actually assign it to do anything. The rest of the interface appears to be working perfectly, however, as users can make use of the Assistive Touch menu system to access four options: Home, Device, Gestures and Favorites.
The “Home” option does exactly what it sounds like, returning the user to the iPhone or iPad’s home screen – similar in function to the hardware button. “Device” offers a multitude of different controls, including those to lock the screen, to change the volume, a button that performs a “shake” of the device, and another to rotate the screen’s orientation. The “Gestures” menu shows options for three, four and five-fingered gestures, which have been popping up in the iPad 2 betas for iOS 5 and are expected to be coming to the device when iOS 5 is officially released. Finally, “Favorites” allows access to custom, saved gestures as well as a handful of other ones such as “pinch” and “swipe”.
Customers of Apple’s devices who may struggle with some or all of the hardware gestures – think elderly users and the “shake” function on an iPad – are likely to be very happy with the company’s implementation of these resources in iOS 5. While the rumor mill is likely to use Assistive Touch as Apple’s means to finally rid their devices of hardware buttons, there’s been no indication from the company that they ever plan to do so, and a great deal of users would be frustrated with the inability to adjust things like an iPhone’s volume without taking the device out of their pocket and accessing the screen. Assistive Touch does show that Apple is paying attention to its customer space, and that they have the skills to produce software interfaces that could eliminate hardware buttons in the future if that’s what the market dictates.
It’s tough to imagine a button-less iPod or iPhone, but this could be relatively feasible for the iPad which is screen-centric and virtually everything is done via the display. Only time will tell if Apple decides to eliminate hardware buttons entirely.
We still have very little “real” information about the iPhone 5 Release Date but will keep everyone updated with rumors and official news.
Steve Jobs Resigns as CEO of Apple
Tim Cook Named CEO and Jobs Elected Chairman of the Board
Apple‘s Board of Directors today announced that Steve Jobs has resigned as Chief Executive Officer, and the Board has named Tim Cook, previously Apple‘s Chief Operating Officer, as the company‘s new CEO. Jobs has been elected Chairman of the Board and Cook will join the Board, effective immediately.
"Steve‘s extraordinary vision and leadership saved Apple and guided it to its position as the world‘s most innovative and valuable technology company," said Art Levinson, Chairman of Genentech, on behalf of Apple‘s Board. "Steve has made countless contributions to Apple‘s success, and he has attracted and inspired Apple‘s immensely creative employees and world class executive team. In his new role as Chairman of the Board, Steve will continue to serve Apple with his unique insights, creativity and inspiration."
"The Board has complete confidence that Tim is the right person to be our next CEO," added Levinson. "Tim‘s 13 years of service to Apple have been marked by outstanding performance, and he has demonstrated remarkable talent and sound judgment in everything he does."
Jobs submitted his resignation to the Board today and strongly recommended that the Board implement its succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO.
As COO, Cook was previously responsible for all of the company‘s worldwide sales and operations, including end-to-end management of Apple‘s supply chain, sales activities, and service and support in all markets and countries. He also headed Apple‘s Macintosh division and played a key role in the continued development of strategic reseller and supplier relationships, ensuring flexibility in response to an increasingly demanding marketplace.

New Report Claims Apple Set to Start iPhone 5 Pre-Orders on Sept. 30, Launch is expexted on Oct. 7
Can you tell that we’re getting VERY close to the launch of Apple’s next-generation iPhone? Regardless of which rumors you believe, there’s likely just a few short weeks until Cupertino takes the wraps off of the iPhone 5 (or iPhone 4S, or… iPhone ?) and ‘new’ reports surrounding the launch of the device are coming in almost daily.
Today, 9to5Mac posted that their sources are indicating that Apple is planning to start taking pre-orders for the next-generation iPhone handset starting on September 30, with a target launch date of October 7. This agrees with another report from TiPB a few days ago, and falls in line with those who believe that Apple will be launching in late September to finish off the third quarter strongly. 9to5Mac suggests that Apple has been trying to decide between a launch on October 7th or October 14th, but as things are going well for Apple in regards to production, the launch is currently set for the 7th. Now, since this is unofficial and just a rumor, this date could be the right one, could be pushed back, or could be entirely false. But for now, it looks like Apple plans to launch the next iPhone handset on this date.If the pre-order date is accurate and Apple does intend to start allowing pre-orders on Friday, September 30ththen it’s almost a certainty that they will hold some form of preview event in early September. Apple has traditionally held an event in September, but the focus of this event was generally around the iPod, iTunes and music in general. With music-only devices starting to become less important to Apple, it’s certainly possible that Apple will use their September event to focus on the new iPhone. Apple has also pointed to a September release for the new version of its iOS mobile operating system, dubbed iOS 5, and with the updated iOS now in its fifth beta it’s likely to be released alongside the next iPhone.
The jury is still out as to what new devices we’ll see out of Apple this fall, with some analysts and media calling for a single new blockbuster handset and others suggesting Apple will release two new iPhones. The 9to5Macreport is in the latter camp, offering that Apple may release a new, more powerful handset than the current iPhone 4 and another less expensive handset that may be destined for prepaid markets. The updated iPhone will most likely gain the newer A5 dual-core processor (currently powering the iPad 2), an upgraded rear camera (likely 8 megapixel), and possibly a larger 4.0” display. If Apple does release a less-expensive prepaid handset, it will almost certainly be an underpowered iPhone 4 with some of the bells and whistles taken out.
As per the usual, there is no word out of Apple to confirm or deny today’s report, or to suggest what’s going on with the next iPhone. If you’re desperately waiting for the iPhone 5, stay tuned as it appears that we’re just a couple of weeks away from hearing a firm date for Apple’s September event, where all will be revealed!
Sprint Set to Join AT&T and Verizon as an iPhone 5 Carrier
According to a report issued today by the Wall Street Journal, Sprint will join AT&T and Verizon in offering iPhone handsets starting this fall with the launch of Apple’s next-generation iPhone 5 handset.

Sprint is currently the third-largest wireless carrier in the country, behind Verizon and AT&T respectively. With more than fifty million customers, Sprint represents a huge new market for Apple and its wildly-selling iPhone. After launching the first iPhone handset exclusively with AT&T, Apple has continually moved to add new carrier partners to continue its push to become the number-one smartphone manufacturer in the world.
Interestingly, the United States was the first country to receive Apple’s iPhone in 2007, but the last to drop carrier exclusivity which only happened in January of this year with the launch of the CDMA iPhone 4 handset on Verizon. The rumor mill has been speculating that Sprint and T-Mobile were possible new carriers that would be on board following the launch of the iPhone 5; this new report from a source as reputable as the Wall Street Journal seemingly confirms it. As T-Mobile is currently in merger negotiations with AT&T, it’s likely that subscribers will have access to the iPhone in the future anyway.
Sprint currently operates its cellular network using the same CDMA technology as Verizon. While this would indicate that Sprint should be able to sell the same iPhone 5 handsets as Verizon does, many reports suggest that Apple may do away with its multiple handsets instead offering a “world phone” capable iPhone 5 that can connect to nearly every cellular company’s network on the planet. A number of news outlets reported this week that app developers have seen an iPhone model like this one reported in app usage logs, so it’s likely that a single iPhone 5 handset will be offered to all of Apple’s carrier partners.
Receiving the hottest-selling smartphone on the planet couldn’t come at a better time for Sprint, a company that has seen its customers leaving in droves due to poor handset selection, and of course because they can’t get an iPhone. AT&T and Verizon have been quick to scoop up these lost customers; AT&T reported half-year sales of over 7 million iPhone handsets (iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4) through June 30, while Verizon sold about 4.5 million iPhone 4 handsets during the same time period.
Finally, a number of reports came out in the last day that suggest Apple may be planning to release a cheaper version of its iPhone 4 handset along with the next-generation iPhone 5 around the end of September. It’s currently unclear if this less-expensive handset would be offered to new carrier partners such as Sprint, or if it would only be offered to carriers that already sell the iPhone 4.
As usual, Apple had no comment surrounding the news that Sprint would be joining its huge family of carrier partners. As the clock ticks toward the inevitable launch of the next iPhone, we shall all see soon enough if today’s news is true.
